Government announces a range of support for the road haulage industry to boost recruitment and retention.
The Government has announced a series of measures to tackle the shortage of drivers in the road haulage sector. As part of this support package, the availability of driving tests will be boosted after the backlog created by Covid. In addition, steps will be taken to encourage individuals to consider driving as a long term career.
TRS welcomes this announcement and the promises behind it. Ministers have outlined these promises in an open letter to the road haulage sector. In particular, we are very pleased that the LGV apprenticeship standard now includes funding for C+E licencing. Indeed, this has already been a positive game-changer for many of our employer clients. Linked to this, we recognise the hard work carried out by the RHA, the British Association of Removers and other members of The Trailblazer Group for Transport and Logistics. Their efforts have prompted the Government to take steps to increase funding.
